Frank G. Shellock, Ph.D., the President of MAGNETIC RESONANCE SAFETY TESTING SERVICES, has more than 30 years of experience as a researcher and educator in the field of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. He has served as a consultant to many MR system and medical product manufacturers. In addition, Dr. Shellock serves as a member of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) International committee on Magnetic Resonance Safety.

Along with his staff, he has performed MR-safety tests on over 10,000 implants and devices, including aneurysm clips, stents, heart valve prostheses, orthopedic implants, vascular access ports, otologic implants, cardiovascular catheters, surgical instruments, electronically-activated implants (pacemakers, neurostimulation systems, etc.), monitoring and patient support equipment, and devices intended for use during interventional or MR-guided procedures (see the PUBLICATIONS section of this web site).
IMPORTANT NOTE: The results of implant testing may be posted on www.MRIsafety.com This website is the premier source of MRI safety information and reaches over 100,000 registered users.
Dr. Shellock has published more than 260 peer-reviewed articles (most pertaining to MR safety) and the most widely-read medical textbooks on MR safety, including:
Reference Manual for Magnetic Resonance Safety, Implants, and Devices: Update 2019 (F.G. Shellock, Biomedical Research Publishing Group, Los Angeles, CA) - revised and updated with the latest information from the peer-reviewed literature. THE LIST now has information for thousands of implants and devices, including those tested at 3.0-Tesla. To order, visit www.MRIsafetybook.com
A NEW book is published each year with an updated list of medical implants, devices, and materials that have been evaluated for MR-safety. This list is consulted by radiologists and technologists to ensure the safety of patients undergoing MR procedures.
Additionally, the results of MR-safety tests are typically posted on the popular web site, www.MRIsafety.com), which serves as a comprehensive resource to the MRI community.
Dr. Shellock is frequently invited to lecture, both nationally and internationally. He has presented magnetic resonance safety lectures as a Visiting Professor and guest speaker at many universities, medical centers, and radiology societies including the Mayo Clinic Foundation, Harvard University, the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center, the University of Utah, the University of Iowa, the University of Kentucky, Nevada Radiological Society, Tripler Army Medical Center, the Radiology Society of Australasia, the Illinois State Society of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, the University of Missouri at Kansas City, the University of Texas, the MRI Society of Greater Kansas City, the Rocky Mountain Imaging Society, the Syracuse Radiological Society, the Finnish Radiological Society, the University of Helsinki, the University of Florida, the University of Vancouver, the Hawaii Radiological Society, Louisiana State University Medical Center, Northwestern University, Stanford University, Oxford University and Southwestern School of Medicine, University of Texas.
In addition, Dr. Shellock has provided plenary lectures on MR safety to numerous medical and governmental organizations including the Radiological Society of North America, the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, the American College of Radiology/American Roentgen Ray Society, the American Society of Neuroradiology, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Oklahoma Heart Institute, the Head and Neck Radiology Society, the Center for Devices and Radiological Health (FDA), the Magnetic Resonance Managers Society, the American Heart Association, the American Society of Neuroimaging, and the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance.
